Coordinator: Coordinator for the project on Gender differences in migration opportunities in Bangladesh: Implications for educational choices and outcomes, funded by Development Research Centre (DRC) on Globalisation, Migration and Poverty, University of Sussex and University of East Anglia, UK, from June 2006-May 2008. The responsibility was to supervise the project.

 

Core researcher: Core researcher for the project on Well-being in Developing Countries (WeD), funded by Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), UK, from June 2003-May 2006. Major responsibilities were to review well-being relevant literature, prepare checklist and questionnaire of qualitative, quantitative structured and semi-structured questionnaire for thematic study, collect qualitative & quantitative data, write thematic report, write community profile, entry data, cleaning and analysis, monitoring and evaluation project, grounding and piloting project and lead 12 members team.

 

Researcher: Researcher for the project on the Livelihoods of the Extreme Poor (LEP), funded by Funded by Department for International Development (DfID), UK and PROSHIKA from January 2001-May 2003. Major responsibilities were to review relevant literature,  prepare checklist, prepare qualitative, quantitative structured and semi-structured questionnaire for thematic study, collect qualitative data, write thematic report, write village profile, analysis, monitor and evaluate project, grounding and piloting project, select project area and lead 6 members team.

 

Researcher: Researcher for the project on Governance Score Card (GSC), funded by PROSHIKA, from March-May 2001. Major responsibilities were to conduct case study and Focus group Discussion (FGD) and conduct case study and Focus group Discussion (FGD). 


Training received


The Technical Assistance (TA) for Capacity Building of IMEC staff, PROSHIKA was managed by HTSPE Ltd. (formerly HTS Development Ltd.) in association with Overseas Development Group at the University of East Anglia and IMA international, UK. The program involved a range of training opportunities, designed and implemented of some focused research studies in collaboration with international researchers for four years from 2001-2004.

Logical Framework and Activity Plan: One week training was conducted by Dr David Hearl, UK on IMEC logical framework by SWOT analysis & annual Planning.

Qualitative Research Technique: One week training was conducted by Dr Janet Seeley, UK on preparing for qualitative research, qualitative data analysis, uses of qualitative methods in collecting data, presenting qualitative data, stakeholder analysis, stakeholder identification, problems and risks of stakeholder analysis and report writing.

Environmental Impact Assessment: One week training was conducted by Dr Ian Hancock, UK on the processes of assessing environmental impact.

Quantitative Research Technique: One week training was conducted by Prof. Gilroy Coleman, UK on latest designing methods, planning a research, sampling techniques, questionnaire preparation, manual writing, design household recording format, the planning implementation and management of fieldwork, quality control & monitoring and evaluation in agricultural and rural development projects. 

Management Core Skills: One week was conducted by Dr David Hearl, UK on organizational management (what management is, management role, organizational efficiency, managing quality) effective leadership skills (effective leadership styles, motivating staff performance, developing individual capability), leadership actions for results (planning individual/group performance, agreeing objectives, goals & targets, effective leadership communications, appraising staff performance), self-management techniques (personal & professional efficiency, managing organizational information, time management skills & methods and action planning for implementation). 

PRA Training: One week training was conducted by PPSBD, Dhaka-Bangladesh on the concept development, sustainable development, stakeholder; participation and its level, continuum, principles, limitations, how to ensure people's participation; what, why, how PRA, principles and three pillars of PRA. I have also learned commonly used PRA methods/tools, application process of PRA, what and why facilitation and facilitator, steps of facilitation and lastly learned participatory planning, monitoring & evaluation, it's four principles, PRA methods commonly used in PM&E, steps of PM&E process and format. 

Data Analysis: One week training was conducted by Prof. Gilroy Coleman, UK on means, modes and medians; deviation and variability, probability, population and sample statistics, sample size, testing hypotheses, regression and correlation and chi-squared tests. 

Quantitative data analysis through SPSS: One week training was conducted by Mr Shafiqur Rahman & Mr Lutfor Rahman, Lecturers, Department of Statistics, University of Dhaka on the uses of SPSS in analysing quantitative data. 

Gender Analysis: One week training was conducted by Dr Janet Seeley, UK on why do gender analysis? Key concepts (Sex and gender, gender relations, gender division of labour, gender roles and responsibilities, gender mainstreaming) and introduction to gender planning frameworks. 

English training: Three months training was conducted by Clare Grose, UK on Academic English writing course. 

English training: Six months training course conducted by English language centre, University of Bath, UK on Academic English writing course.
