Aishwarya Sanjukta Roy Proma is currently a Lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of Rajshahi. Prior to her appointment, she worked as a Research Associate in the Governance & Politics cluster at the BRAC Institute of Governance & Development (BIGD), BRAC University. She holds both her Master’s and Bachelor's degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.
Over the past three years, her research has spanned three interconnected areas: democratic governance in Bangladesh at the national and local levels; digital financial inclusion and technology-driven social change; and shifting geostrategic and security dynamics in South Asia and beyond. At BIGD she co-authored a qualitative working paper on “Understanding the Onboarding Challenges in Digital Financial Services” (2024) and contributed to analyses on local governance reform, such as “Strengthening Local Governance in Bangladesh: A Pathway for Reform Opportunities Post-2024.”
In the domain of foreign policy and security studies, she has published journal articles and commentaries on topics including Bangladesh’s evolving balancing strategy between regional powers (“Bangladesh’s Evolving Balancing Strategy: From Two-Way to Three-Way?”) and broader global security shifts (e.g., the Indo-Pacific, digital economic security). Her public-facing op-eds in national media highlight her commitment to bridging research with public dialogue — for example, on issues of democratic reform in Bangladesh.
She emphasizes the rich blend of theoretical grounding and empirical, policy-oriented research experience in the strategic positioning of Bangladesh in an ever-shifting global order.
